There are of course many things waiting for Nigel when he finally finds a way to return to his own time, his own place. For the most part they're mundane. Expected. Constance is still there. The Queen still has a variety of time-space loopholes for him to fix. But then...there's the letter that comes with the evening post. The envelope is plain, no indication to who might have written it--although the Colonel's name is written on it in tight, controlled, yet elegant penmanship.

The letter itself is on equally plain paper. It isn't signed, but there's a whiff of a very familiar scent, anemone flowers and cedar. The clock tower you call Big Ben. Ten o'clock. I will meet you inside, behind the face.

It was not difficult to disable the bells. By the time the morning crews arrive to investigate the lack of hourly tolling, it will be too late for this world. Although he has to hand it to the ancestors of these people. Very clever to hide the Keyhole in a government building. Parliament will have to wait, however. Tonight this is about paying a visit to an old friend. It's nearly ten now, and Xaldin waits, perched on one of the stationary pieces of clockwork. Whether Tick-Tock will accept his invitation or not, things must proceed. It is the Superior's will.

It is...unfortunate. But Xaldin is not in a position to refuse.
